Nashua, N.H. – NextComputing, manufacturer of portable and small footprint workstations and servers, announces its latest mobile server and portable workstation, the Radius EX Plus. This robust and transportable computer provides enterprise-level computing power, storage, and flexible customization options for users who need the power of a rackmount server or tower workstation, but in an all-in-one package that is small enough to be easily transported.
Unlike prior NextComputing portables that also offer similar benefits in terms of performance and configuration flexibility, the Radius EX Plus is the first of its kind to offer key features previously unavailable in any portable computer:
- AC 110/220V and 48V DC input options up to 650W 1+1 redundant or 1300W 2+1 redundant
- Mixed AC 110/220V and 48V DC in the same system
- Up to fourteen (14) no-tools removable hard drives
- Up to eighteen (18) fixed hard drives or twenty (20) solid state drives
Building on the success of NextComputing's Radius EX product line released in early 2011, the Radius EX Plus gives OEM product developers, systems integrators, enterprise users, and service providers the most comprehensive portable computing platform to date.
Redundant power options protect important data and processes on the system in the event of either an external power source outage or internal power supply failure. Users who require this level of reliability, such as deployed emergency response teams, homeland security forces, or television broadcasters, are now ensured a level of hardware availability otherwise found only in larger rackmount systems.
For telecommunications service providers, it's often necessary to run field tests at a central office where only DC power is available. However, when returning to a typical office building, standard AC wall power is needed. Rather than manage multiple connectors or adapters, the Radius EX Plus offers both AC and DC power input in the same system, making it very easy for the user to work in both environments.
"As a specialized design manufacturer for high-performance, small-footprint computing systems, our product roadmap is driven by customer requirements," says Bob Labadini, President and CTO of NextComputing. "The Radius EX Plus was developed not only in response to specific needs, including redundant power, mixed AC and DC input, and more accessible storage, but this product also addresses larger trends in the industry. The need for mobility is prevalent throughout every market, from the consumer to the enterprise, as is the drive to cloud computing," Labadini continued. "The Radius EX Plus puts true, enterprise-class computing out at the 'edge', where advanced users can take advantage of server performance outside the data center."
